The Golden Fleece is a fine building in the small market town of Thirsk, where Alf White, or as he was better known, James Herriot had his veterinary practice. Herriot’s surgery is now the award-winning World of James Herriot Museum and is just one of the many attractions this area has to offer.
The hotel dates back to the Tudors and is one of the oldest coaching inns in England. Having served travellers and wayfarers for almost 400 years, it is still a very comfortable place to stay and to dine. All bedrooms are en suite, and have modern facilities and amenities, and some rooms have four-poster beds for that special occasion.
There is a cosy lounge, and the Paddock Bar serves local ales and traditional snacks. The restaurant has widely acclaimed food and wines. Indeed, the Hotel has won several awards over recent years for the quality of its fare.
