Until very recently Peel Castle was a desolate ruin, but the owners, Francis and Karen Shaw had the foresight to see the potential in this 750-year-old small castle. After two years restoration work (the story was told on Channel 4’s Grand Designs TV programme) the Peel has now been brought into the 21st century with all the romance and character of a medieval Knights Templar castle - complete with secret tunnels and a colourful history involving the execution of a previous owner for high treason. Francis and Karen are delighted to let guests share their good fortune by staying in this singular property which is less than a mile from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There’s plenty to see and do nearby - Peel Castle is only seven miles from Settle and around 10 miles from Skipton. Malham Tarn and The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway are also very close.
