There’s plenty to see and do in Whitby. Explore the town where Captain Cook lived, visit the Captain Cook memorial museum and see the monument devoted to the famous seafarer. Discover the legend of Dracula and the darker side of the town that inspired Bram Stoker to write his world famous novel, remembering to pay a visit the Dracula Experience. Those feeling energetic can climb the 199 steps (known as Caedmons Trod) up to Whitby Abbey and admire the fantastic views across the Yorkshire Coastline.

Whitby has a great, sandy, blue flag beach which stretches on for miles, all the way to Sandsend when the tide is out. The cliffs and many rock pools harbour many interesting finds, from sea creatures, to fossils and even Whitby Jet.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates steam trains out of Whitby station, passing through the stunning North Yorkshire countryside, including Goathland, famous for its appearances in TV’s Heartbeat and the market town of Pickering.
