Reeth Tourist Information

Two of Yorkshire's finest dales are Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, and Reeth lies where the two dales meet, making it a base for some of the finest walking territory in the country. Arkengarthdale is one of the more tranquil dales and ideal for peaceful and quiet enjoyment of the countryside. Swaledale has gentle slopes on either side of the River Swale, as it meanders its way to Richmond Reeth is on Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast walk.

Reeth has a large village green which is still very much a centre of activity, with a weekly market, agricultural shows and occasional fairs.

Reeth is home to the Swaledale Folk Museum and is the main centre for the annual Swaledale Festival whose purpose is to bring internationally renowned composers and musicians to the area, with the focus on chamber music, though brass bands, choral music, folk music, jazz and rock are also represented. There are also accompanying exhibitions, films, guided walks, poetry readings, talks and exhibitions to provide an integrated approach to the arts.

Much of the music takes place in local churches and village halls to make it accessible to visitors and the locals.
