The Forresters Arms Hotel is an attractive, traditional country inn located in the charming village of Kilburn, just north of York. Kilburn is in the North York Moors National Park, in the midst of the area fondly referred to as "Herriot Country".
Kilburn has its own claims to fame - it lies at the foot of Sutton Bank, home of the White Horse carving - a renowned North Yorkshire landmark - and it is also the location of the Robert Thompson workshops. Robert "Mouseman" Thompson was the celebrated wood carver, whose trademark is a carved church mouse on every item. His family business is still thriving and now incorporates a very popular visitor centre and café.
Kilburn is the ideal location for walkers undertaking the Cleveland Way. Visitors can expect to find warming open log fires, a superb range of real ales and a broad-ranging menu incorporating first-rate local produce.
Fiona Gould, formerly of The Watermill Inn found in Pateley Bridge, acquired the Hotel and personally oversaw a programme of renovations throughout 2007, taking great care to enhance the Forresters quintessential and renowned Country Inn charm.
The hotel's two bars feature early works from the Mouseman of Kilburn, and the hospitality and relaxed atmosphere will appeal to guests of all ages. Visitors will find the locals very welcoming and many are happy to brighten up the evening with entertaining local tales! In the past. when it was an inn, the hotel provided respite for weary coachmen and stabling for their horses as they stopped at the village's green on their journey to the towns beyond. You can still see clear evidence of the old stables in the top bar.
The hotel's ten bedrooms all have en suite bathrooms with showers and baths. All visitors are guaranteed a heartfelt Yorkshire-Irish welcome from Fiona and the devoted staff at The Forresters Arms Hotel. Once visitors uncover the charm of Kilburn, they return as regular visitors, and good friends.
