There’s crazy golf, pitch and putt, a children’s paddling pool, tennis courts, a boating lake and a 18-hole links golf course all within easy reach, as well as the sandy Blue Flag beach, the harbour and the numerous shops and boutiques in the town centre. The Whitby Pavilion and Spa Theatre is within easy walking distance and offers an extensive programme of shows, activities and events. The old town is a shopper’s paradise, with a variety of unique shops selling everything from handcrafted Whitby jet jewellery to antiques and maritime memorabilia. Other local attractions include the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, the Dracula Experience, the Whitby Museum, and the imposing landmark that is the 13th Century Abbey ruin.
Whitby is also a haven for food lovers, from traditional tea rooms to award-winning seafood restaurants, taking in, along the way, several rightly-renowned fish and chip shops as well as Indian, Chinese and continental cuisine. And there’s a wide variety of pubs and inns which serve hand-pulled real ales and traditional, locally-sourced hearty fayre.
