The wonderful Wheatsheaf Inn has a long and colourful history. The building dates back to the 17th century and has seen many changes over the years. The latest refurbishment and extension project was completed in 2007 to provide a superior degree of comfort for our guests. Our inn is the hub of local village life, and over the years it has had some notable guests including the actress Greta Garbo and bandleader Henry Hall after entertaining the wartime troops at Catterick Garrison. Just six weeks before their stay the author Alf Wight (better known as James Herriot) and his bride enjoyed a pleasant honeymoon here. More recently the actor Christopher Timothy (who played James Herriot in the TV series All Creatures Great & Small) stayed in the inn.
The Wheatsheaf is family-owned and run by Paul and Carol Mitchell who take pride in offering the best in comfort and cuisine.
