With Halloween at the end of the month and the harvest celebrations in full swing, there’s lots of stuff to do in Yorkshire this October. Take a look at some of the events we’re most excited about.

Harrogate Comedy Festival

Come along to some of the great performances that are happening as part of the 10th annual Harrogate Comedy Festival this year. Big names include Sarah Millican, Maisie Adam, Ross Noble, Nish Kumar, Sara Pascoe and Stewart Francis, but be quick as they’re likely to sell out!

The Northern Antiques Fair

Come along to Harrogate to the Northern Antiques Fair to see what beautiful items could be coming home with you.

Castle Howard’s Food and Drink Festival

Castle Howard will be transformed over the weekend and become a food lover’s paradise, full of local and regional food and drink. Talks and tastings will happen all weekend and shouldn’t be missed!

Fountains Abbey by Floodlight

Fountains Abbey is opening its gates after dark to show you the ruins like you’ve probably never seen them before. You can listen to the choirs sing, tuck in to tasty BBQ food and explore the ruins in the floodlite.

Stokesley Food Festival

Sink your teeth into something delicious in Stokesley this October. Their food festival will run all weekend, starting with a farmer’s market and lots of live music, pop-up food demonstrations, and plenty of stalls to wander around.

Filey Bay

Filey Food Festival

The Filey Food Festival is back and looks like it’s going to be incredible. There’s going to be around 70 food and drink exhibitors to talk to and lots will be delivering seafood cookery demonstrations. Rob Green, the Seafish UK Ambassador Chef is also going to be presenting!

Thornton Hall Pumpkin Picking

Come and pick your own pumpkin at Thornton Hall this Halloween. There are also scary mazes to complete, face painting, egg collecting, animal feeding and petting, and much more!

Yorskhire Marathon

Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival

Visit The Crown Hotel in Harrogate this October to meet contemporary authors. As well as your literary favourites, you’ll get to listen to authors from a whole range of genres, including comedy, history, and sport.

Fairfax House after Dark

Come along to Fairfax House in York to see an unusual candlelit performance by the mansion’s former inhabitants. Lord Fairfax and his household staff will give you an insight into 18th century life.

Bolton Abbey’s Pumpkin Trail

Can you unwravel the witch’s spell? Work your way around the Strid Wood and discover mystery doors in the trees. You’ll find lots of clue to help you beat the magical spell and get your special surprise at the end.

Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival, Whitby

Whitby Pavilion are hosting a very special weekend of events as part of the Goth Festival this October. There will be horror film screenings, Dark Days alternative market, and lots of great bands.

Mother Shipton’s Enchanted forest

Walk through Mother Shipton’s forest and break the witch’s curse by completing an adventure trail. At 2pm every day there’s a costume competition too, so make sure you’re in your best scary outfit!

Halloween Train Ride with the North York Moors Railway

A spooky service will be running over the Halloween weekend, running between Pickering and Levisham station. This non-stop journey is full of tricks and treats, spooktacular characters and fancy dress. All children will also get a special gift.

Halloween train this October

Pirates vs Zombies at Castle Howard

The house and ground have been taken over by horrible creatures they’re looking for new recruits. Can you find the ancient cure for zombification or unearth the lost riches of the pirates? The fun adventure trail takes you through the house and grounds, but make sure you solve it before the daily battle between the zombies and the pirates.

Workhouse Ghosts and Soul Cakes

Visit the Ripon Museum during half term and meet their friendly ghosts. Bake cakes, trick or treat in Victorian style and make sure you come along to their Halloween party on 31st for games, costume competitions and the corridor of terror.
