The National Railway Museum is a family favourite and it doesn’t cost a penny. Hide from the rain and learn all about iconic locomotives. Discover unexpected objects and uncover centuries of railway history.

White scar cave
White scar cave is the longest show cave in Britain. You can escape the elements by heading into the Earth. Take a look at the waterfalls, stalagmites and stalactites that hide under the ground. Be aware the cave does shut in extreme weather.

Jorvik Viking centre
Step back in time with a visit to the recently renovated Jorvik Viking Centre in York. Take a look at all the incredible artefacts of our past and learn all about the Viking settlement in York. The centre brings the sights, sounds and even smells of Viking life into the 21st century.
The Deep
The Deep is one of the UK’s largest aquariums and is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn all about ocean life, meet penguins and sharks, and walk underneath the water in through their amazing underwater viewing tunnel.
The Wensleydale Creamery
Learn all about Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese at the Wensleydale Creamery. Visit the experience and learn how the delicious cheese is made. There are hands-on games and activities and you’ll even get to see the cheese-makers in action. Of course, you’ll be able to try their delicious flavours too.

Ripley Castle
Take a tour around one of Yorkshire’s great castles. Learn about its history over the last 700 years on either the adult or child friendly tour. With 6 rooms to explore and a delicious spot for some afternoon tea, this is a perfect place to visit when it’s raining.
