What’s on this September?

There are lots of wonderful events you can go along to this September! North Yorkshire is full of wonderful events that you’re sure to love. As always, we don’t want you to miss out on any of them, so we’ve pulled together a list of some of the exciting things that are happening in Yorkshire this month.

Yorkshire Traction Engine Rally

Set in the stunning parkland at Scampston Hall, you’ll find the fantastic Yorkshire Traction Engine Rally. There are going to be lots of fantastic attractions all weekend, including tractor pulling and stunt shows.

Medieval Music in the Dales

If you love medieval music, or would like to hear something totally unique, come along to some of the fantastic events and performances. Medieval Music in the Dales is the UK’s only festival of medieval music and is a real celebration of our musical heritage.

Scarborough Northern Soul Weekender

It’s the 10th anniversary of the Scarborough Northern Soul Weekender. They’ve got a spectacular line up planned for you, with some of the very best DJ sets from Soul Clubs all over the North.

Whitby Pirate Festival Weekend

Come along to Whitby for a fantastic weekend full of swashbuckling fun. There will be live music, themed activities like treasure hunting, a best dressed competition and a Buccaneer’s Banquet and Smuggler’s Ball.

Malton Harvest Food Festival

Come along and celebrate the harvest with all the finest tastes of Yorkshire at the Malton Harvest Food Festival. You’ll find harvest game, seafood, fruit, baking, and wild and foraged food. There’s also lots of vegetarian and vegan food too. There will be demonstrations, live music, talks, and of course, tastings.

Staithes Festival

Staithes is well known for its stunning resident artists. It’s such a beautiful part of the world, we know why they’re so inspired to make sure fantastic art. Come along to their Festival of Arts and Heritage to see their works and learn a little more about the area.

Introduction to rock climbing

Come along to this half day introduction to rock climbing to see if you’ve got the strength and skills for this exciting hobby. Great fun for everyone, from complete novices to competent indoor climbers.

Yorkshire Fossil Festival

Our stunning coastline is teeming with fossils. As you wander along the beach, you never know what remains of the Jurassic world you might find. Come along to the Yorkshire Fossil Festival to learn all about our history, and discover how to spot your very own fossils.

Nidderdale Show

If you love a good agricultural show, come along to the Nidderdale Show. You’ll get to see all the finest livestock, produce and crafts from across the Yorkshire Dales. It’s one of the last agricultural shows you’ll be able to visit this year, as it typically ends the show season.

Whitby 60s Weekend

Head back to the swinging 60s with lots of fun in Whitby this September. Dance along to your favourite 60s music by fantastic tribute acts, including: The Stones, The Chuck Berry Experience, Cupid’s Inspiration and lots more.

North York Moors Railway Annual Steam Gala

Come and marvel at the guest locomotives and home fleet engines at the NYMR’s annual steam gala. Different stations along the line are hosting beer festivals and entertainment throughout the festival. You’ll be able to see locomotives like 6990 Witherslack Hall, GWR 6000 Class 6023 King Edward II, 60009 Union of South Africa, and NELPG K1 Locomotive 62005, among others.

Richmond Walking and Book Festival

Meet your literary heroes and explore a stunning landscape during the fantastic Richmond Walking and Book Festival. You’ll be inspired and invigorated at any event you choose to come along to. There’s even a family friendly ghost walk included in the events programme.

York Balloon Fiesta

See spectacular hot air balloons up close before they take off and soar over the historic city of York. There’s food and drink, live music, rides and lots of entertainment for you to enjoy over the weekend too. Plus, it’s free to enter all weekend long.

Firth Fell Race in Upper Wharfedale

Challenge yourself to a 6.1 mile climbing race up to the top of the Firth Fell or watch as your friends compete to reach the top. It’s an incredible feat in a truly stunning Yorkshire landscape.
