For the ultimate rural retreat why not stay in a luxury Finnish eco lodge at The Hawthornes in Middleton and relax in 4-star, contemporary accommodation in an idyllic country setting.
Set in 11 acres of flourishing grounds in the stunning North Yorkshire countryside, these luxury log cabins are fitted out to the highest specification, including fully tiled wet room bathrooms with walk-in showers, and under floor heating powered by an eco-friendly ground source heat pump.
The modern, luxurious living accommodation features a well equipped, fully fitted kitchen, dining area and living room with an open plan layout, fitted out with a flat screen television, Blue Ray DVD player and wi-fi. Each lodge has a king sized bedroom and a comfortable sofa bed in the living room that converts to make a further double bed. A goody hamper will also be provided on arrival.
Hosts Paula and John Appleby also run a 5 pitch Caravan Club site and a B&B on the smallholding, so are always on hand should you need anything throughout your stay. Guests staying in the log cabins are invited to join bed and breakfast guests for a full Yorkshire cooked breakfast using locally produced meat, homemade bread and preserves, fresh free range eggs and seasonal home grown fruit. Alternatively you can have it delivered, hot, to your door and enjoy it in the comfort of your lodge. The Hawthornes is just a stone's throw from the North Yorkshire market town of Pickering where there are several pubs, eateries and shops. Within walking distance is the Middleton Arms pub on Church Lane, and the bus stop for a trip to Pickering is only less that a 5 minute's walk. Paula & John are happy to guide you to the best match for you budget and tastes.
Enjoy the Outdoors
The log cabins have decked verandas with tables and chairs so you can sit out and enjoy the fresh air and magnificent views or bask in the evening sun while you listen to the birdsong. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of deer as they venture out of the local woods. On colder days you can curl up on the comfy sofa in front of the warmth of the log burning stove (supply of logs provided).
The lodges are ideally located for exploring the North York Moors National Park – the North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs steam trains into the National Park from Pickering. Dalby forest is 15 minutes away (or easily cycleable) and has visitor centre, cycle tracks and a Go Ape treetop adventure centre. Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and York are all around 30 minutes.
Short breaks available. Also, why not bring your horse on holiday? We have ample turnout paddocks/stables and make our own hay, and offer lots of good local rides. Paula is more than happy to accompany you on her own horse.
