Sit back and enjoy 18 miles of some of the most stunning scenery in the country as your journey winds its way through the North York Moors National Park. Along the line are the lovely villages of Grosmont, Goathland, Newtondale Halt, Levisham and the popular market town of Pickering (home to this famous railway). Many services are run back and forth from Whitby on the east coast.

This fabulous heritage railway is a great family attraction with period stations, tearooms, shops and plenty of car parking and toilets along route. Dogs are most welcome. The trains have plenty of room and all cater for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Special events are held throughout the year, including the hugely popular Railway in Wartime in October each year, plus Steam Galas, Swinging Sixties and Classic Cars & Vehicles Weekend events Check the website for further information.

Levisham Station has its very own 'Artist in Residence'. Pay a visit to the engine sheds and watch locomotives being restored in preparation for steam at Grosmont. Step off the train at Goathland, known globally as 'Hogsmeade' in the first of the Harry Potter films and 'Aidensfield' in TV's Heartbeat. The Railway is an all-weather attraction which recreates history with every single train ride.

Many visitors return to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway time and time again, taking in fabulous walks and cycle rides , exploring the wonderful stations, or visiting Pickering and the famous and historic seaside resort of Whitby.

Check out the luxury dining trains with authentic Pullman coaches, period saloon coaches (which are offered for corporate and private functions), and come along and enjoy the NYMR's excellent Footplate Experience days.
