The Old Reading Room is a comfortable and spacious cottage in the peaceful village of Lastingham (the village is so peaceful because it is at the end of the road - and further travel is only via bridleways and footpaths). The cottage is well-equipped and light, airy and very clean. There are three bedrooms - a master double bedroom, a second double room, and a single, making it ideal for families. Indeed children are very welcome and we can supply a cot and highchair if required. There is free on-street parking, with additional parking available at Lastingham Grange. On arrival, complimentary afternoon tea is available from Lastingham Grange Country House Hotel & Restaurant, and the Grange also offers guests of the Old Reading Room reductions on meals. Guests can also use the Grange for off-licence sales or for a quiet daytime or evening drink.
The Old Reading Room is an ideal location for exploring the North York Moors - by foot, by bike, on horseback or via touring - but it’s also located in an excellent position for trips to the beautiful Yorkshire coast (Whitby and Scarborough are each 24 miles away), for the town of Thirsk (24 miles) where James Herriot lived and practiced as a vet, and the city of York (32 miles) with its stunning Minster, city walls, castle and museums. Closer to hand is Pickering (7 miles) which also has a fine castle and Hutton le Hole (2 miles) where you’ll find the Ryedale Folk Museum.
