A trail of the solid wood workshops of Thirsk, home to a wealth of furniture makers and craftsman.
Individually designed pieces of furniture
See Craftmen at work
Dotted in and around the charming market town of Thirsk in North Yorkshire are members of a group of cabinetmakers and wood carvers. These people are craftsmen, with skills honed over many years to produce items that are more than mere furniture - these are pieces that will one day become the antiques of tomorrow.
Using a variety of hardwoods they create furniture to designs and specifications provided by their customers, as well as producing a variety of pieces to their own designs. And, as a little extra, many carve a trademark into each piece they create.
Visitors can see the craftsmen at work and examples of their pieces by following the Thirsk Furniture Trail, which weaves its way from workshop to workshop for 9 of these renowned craftsmen, including Beaver Furniture, Carthouse Furniture, Coxwold Cabinet Makers, Design in Wood, Graham Duncalf, Furniture Maker, Old Mill Furniture, The Squirrel Woodcarvers, Treske Furniture and Wren Cabinet Makers.
